In short
Everything Counts is a personal finance app that you install on your own Mac. Your financial data stays on your Mac. It does not go to servers that Everything Counts operates, and it does not go to other companies.
The app connects to the internet for two things only: the license (trial, activation and license checks) and the update check. These connections do not contain financial data.
What stays on your Mac
Your profiles, accounts, assets, transactions, budgets, categories, exchange rates and settings are kept in a database file in the Everything Counts folder on your Mac. The files that you import, for example a CSV statement from your bank, are read on your Mac. Their contents stay in that database.
Everything Counts has no user accounts and no sign-in. It does not include analytics, advertising, tracking or crash upload.
The app also keeps a signed license file, a trial file and a random installation ID on your Mac. The app makes the installation ID at random. It does not come from your hardware, serial number, network addresses or the name of your Mac.
What leaves your Mac, and where it goes
To start the trial, the app sends the random installation ID to everythingcounts.app. To activate a license, and to check one time each day that the license was not refunded, the app sends your license key and the installation ID. It does not send a hardware identifier or the name of your Mac.
To find out if a new version is available, the app asks everythingcounts.app for the number of the newest release. This request contains no data about you. When you choose to download a new version, the file comes from downloads.everythingcounts.app.
As with each connection on the internet, these servers receive the IP address of your network. We use it only to deliver the response and to limit abuse of the license service.
What the license server keeps
When you buy a license, the license server keeps the license key, the Paddle transaction number, your email address and the status of the license (active or refunded). For each Mac that activates the key, it keeps the installation ID and the dates of the first and the last check. For each trial, it keeps the installation ID and the dates of the start and the last check.
We use this data to deliver your license, to send your key to you again if you lose it, to apply refunds, and to stop the abuse of a trial. There is no limit on the number of Macs, so this data is never used to block a Mac.
Other services that we use
Purchases are handled by Paddle, which is the merchant of record. Paddle receives the data that it needs for the payment, the tax and the invoice, under its own privacy policy. We receive a record of the purchase and your email address, not your card details.
The email with your license key, and the messages from the contact form, are sent through Resend. Cloudflare serves this website, the license service, the update check and the release files. These services do not receive your financial data.
This website, and the contact form
This website does not use analytics or advertising cookies. The Paddle checkout can use cookies or similar browser storage, under the privacy terms of Paddle.
When you send a message through the contact form, the name, email address, topic and message that you type go through Resend to our support inbox. We use them only to answer you.
Deleting your information
You control the data on your Mac. You can delete a profile in the app. When you delete the app, the Everything Counts folder in ~/Library/Application Support/everything-counts stays on your Mac. Delete that folder to remove your financial data, the license file and the trial file. Copies in your own backups, for example Time Machine, stay until you delete them.
To delete the data that the license server keeps about your purchase, write to us. A deleted license key does not work any more, so we tell you before we delete it.
Children
Everything Counts is not for children under 13, and we do not collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
